MANUFACTURING PROCESS

MORI KOUGEI purchases materials in sliced form from suppliers throughout Japan.

Wood selection

We select veneers satisfying the order from our inventory of a wide range of goods with the necessary length and quantity.

Pasting sheets widthwise compensates the necessary width of a product, but adding veneer longwise might make it look unnatural, therefore we select wood with the necessary length in our inventory.

Trimming

We cut and adjust the width and length of the base material (glue base).

We cut the length roughly in order to prevent the unnecessary leeway and we cut the width with an eye to ensure the sheets fit naturally when pasted on.

Applying an adhesive material to the base (an even application by a glue coating machine)

We select from various types of adhesives that would match our need depending on the purpose and the manufacturing process.
The glue coating machine process helps the adhesive material get applied evenly.

Veneer laying (2 workers hold the edges and place the veneers)

2 workers hold the edges and place the veneers.

Hot press

The heat and pressure glue the materials evenly and firmly together.

Cutting the leeway parts (perimeter trimming with a leather cutting knife)

We cut and remove the parts sticking out.

Inspection (repair if necessary)

Inspection (repair if necessary)

Wood expands when the veneers are placed on the adhesive material and shrinks under the heat when pressed during the manufacturing process.

We go through a check to spot any gaps or overlappings.

When necessary we cut equivalent material into thin strips and fix it with a small iron.

Finishing the surface with a wide belt sander

We put the product through a machine with a rotating belt-shaped sand paper.

Delivery

Decorative plywood is completed.

By the hands of the carpenters, delivered decorative plywood is processed to become various products.
