Like the maple, it is a member of the maple family, but its wood grain has the unique atmosphere of Japanese maple because of the different growing environment. Generally, maple trees do not grow to be large in diameter, but the itaya maple grows thicker than other maple trees. It is said that the name "Itaya-maple" comes from the fact that its leaves are so thick that it looks like a roof. Some of them have a shrunken wooden frame or bird's-eye pattern.
